Jordan Farmar out at least two weeks with moderate groin strain
On Tuesday, the Lakers announced that Jordan Farmar will miss at least two weeks with a groin strain.
Farmar was injured Monday in practice, his third injury of the season after a pair of hamstring tears.
“We were in the middle of the practice, and probably he made a misstep,” said Coach Mike D’Antoni of Farmar. “I don’t know how he did it.”
Farmar was examined Tuesday by Dr. Luga Podesta of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, revealing a moderate strain in his right groin.
Through 36 appearances, Farmar is averaging 10.4 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 45.7% from three-point range.
The Lakers only have four weeks left in what has become a disappointing season, primarily because of injuries. To date, players have missed a combined 241 games year with All-Star Kobe Bryant playing in just six.
Steve Nash has missed all but 10 games, dealing with knee, back and hamstring issues stemming from a nerve-root irritation in his back.
It’s unclear if Nash will make a return over the next few weeks with Farmar out.
“We’ll see,” said D’Antoni of Nash. “He hasn’t practiced with us, so that’d be a stretch.”
D’Antoni noted the backup point-guard duties behind starter Kendall Marshall will fall on Jodie Meeks, Xavier Henry and Kent Bazemore.
“They all will probably play together, they have to be able to rely on each other to bring it up, which one has the less pressure, and make plays,” said D’Antoni. “Pau [Gasol] probably needs to be on the floor more with those guys.”
D’Antoni said he expects both Jordan Hill and Nick Young to return shortly from knee injuries.
“I think they’re targeting this weekend sometime,” said D’Antoni, noting that Young is probably closer to a comeback than Hill.
The Lakers (22-44) host the San Antonio Spurs (50-16) on Wednesday night at Staples Center.
