Lakers’ recently signed players now trade eligible

If the Lakers have any intention to make a deal before the Feb. 20 trade deadline, a number of players on the roster just became trade eligible.

In most cases, free agents signed during the off-season cannot be traded until Dec. 15.

This applies to Chris Kaman, Nick Young, Jordan Farmar, Wesley Johnson, Shawne Williams, Robert Sacre and Xavier Henry.

Technically the Lakers can now trade any player on the team, although Kobe Bryant has a non-trade clause.

Obviously the Lakers have no intention of dealing Bryant. Most players on the roster should be considered safe.

Bryant also has a 15% trade kicker -- or salary bonus -- as do Pau Gasol, Steve Nash and Young.

Bryant’s $30.5-million salary is high enough that his trade kicker is meaningless. He wouldn’t get a bump in pay if dealt, which borders on zero chance.

Gasol’s math is trickier, given he makes $19.3 million, slightly more than the league maximum of $19.2 million. If traded, Gasol would receive a trade bonus of $664,150, or about 3.4%, instead of the full 15%.
