Raptors All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan will miss Toronto’s game against the Lakers on Sunday at Staples Center after injuring his groin in a game Friday night against the Dallas Mavericks.
In a statement on their website, the Raptors said “test results revealed a torn left adductor longus tendon. There is no timetable for his return to basketball activity. His status will be updated as appropriate.”

Word initially was that DeRozan had strained his groin but it was learned Saturday that the injury was more severe.

DeRozan was injured in the third quarter of a 106-102 loss at Toronto. Although he remained on the court for a few more minutes, he eventually left the court to go to the locker room and did not return.

DeRozan had helped the Raptors open the season with a franchise-best 13-2 record before the loss to the Mavericks. The 25-year-old from Compton is averaging 19.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals in a team-leading 33.6 minutes a game.

The Lakers host the Raptors at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
