Manny Harris named NBA Development League all-star

Kobe Bryant will miss the NBA All-Star game with a knee injury. Pau Gasol was left off the Western Conference all-star squad.

Still, the Lakers won’t go unrecognized -- at least on the D-League level.

On Monday, Lakers guard Manny Harris was named an NBA Development League all-star.

Harris spent the season with the D-Fenders before the Lakers called him up on a pair of 10-day contracts.

With the D-Fenders, Harris averaged 30.6 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. The D-League All-Star game is to be played on Feb. 15 in New Orleans.

Harris has played eight games with the Lakers this season, averaging 6.8 points on 33.9% shooting from the field.

His second 10-day contract expires on Feb. 4, which might mean the Lakers’ visit to the Minnesota Timberwolves could be his last appearance with the team.

If the Lakers want to keep the 6-foot-5 guard, they would need to sign Harris to a new contract for the remainder of the season.

With three guards (Steve Blake, Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar) returning from injury, Harris might find himself back in the D-League.

Malcolm Thomas, who was Harris’ teammate earlier in the year with the D-Fenders, was also named to the D-League all-star team. Thomas is under contract with the Utah Jazz.
