Mike D’Antoni: Manny Harris is going to be thrown ‘into the fire’

BOSTON -- At some point in Friday night’s game against Boston, two recent Development League players could be on the court at the same time for the Lakers.

Shooting guard Manny Harris joined the team after signing a 10-day contract Thursday. He was averaging 30.6 points, most in the Development League, while playing for the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

“We’ll throw him right into the fire,” Lakers Coach Mike D’Antoni said Friday.

The Lakers signed point guard Kendall Marshall from the Development League four weeks ago.

The Lakers will need a spark without Nick Young, suspended for a game by the NBA because he punched Phoenix guard Goran Dragic in Wednesday’s game. Young was averaging 16.4 points.

“Nick’s been probably our best player all year. He’ll be back next game and he’ll pick up where he leaves off,” D’Antoni said.

The Lakers (14-25) have lost 12 of their last 13 games.

It probably doesn’t help that Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is returning Friday after sitting out almost a year because of a torn knee ligament.

“I’m hoping [the Celtics] stand around and watch him play,” D’Antoni said jokingly.
