Report: Andrew Bynum’s knees still ailing
Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum is still feeling pain in his left knee, according to an Associated Press report.
The Lakers made the blockbuster trade over the off-season to acquire Dwight Howard in exchange for arguably the league’s second-best center in Bynum. Howard has been a positive for the Lakers, returning early from back surgery. Bynum has yet to make his debut for the Sixers.
“Worst-case scenario, it’s another month,” said Bynum in the report. “Best-case scenario, I can ramp it up.”
Bynum is technically out with “bilateral bone bruises” but he acknowledged that “it’s arthritis in the knees. Cartilage is missing. That’s not going to regrow itself. Maybe in the future, next three to five years, there may be something out there that really does help. Right now, it’s kind of a waiting game.”
Naturally the Sixers aren’t thinking three to five years down the road. Bynum is in the final year of his contract, earning $16.9 million to get his knees healthy.
The former Laker had a setback earlier in the year brought on by bowling.
Perhaps Bynum recovers in time to be a force for the Sixers, but it looks as if the Lakers sold high on a player whose injury woes far outweigh what he can do on the court.
