Doctor’s examination of Pau Gasol’s knees shows improvement

Pau Gasol has returned to Los Angeles after spending the summer in his native Spain.

The veteran forward/center has been sidelined since May, recovering from procedures to alleviate tendinosis in both knees. Just recently he resumed basketball activities after a lengthy period just on the treadmill, in the weight room or pool.

Gasol visited with Dr. Steve Yoon of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic on Thursday for a checkup.

Good morning from LA! This morning I will visit Dr. Yoon and he will check how my patellar tendons are. I will update you later!— Pau Gasol (@paugasol) September 26, 2013

Apparently the results were favorable.

Great news! My knees are a lot better thanks to the procedure, the rest & the hard work during the summer! Let’s go! pic.twitter.com/NfblNoF9qF— Pau Gasol (@paugasol) September 26, 2013

Gasol’s health this coming season is crucial for the Lakers, along with the recovery of Kobe Bryant from Achilles’ tendon surgery.

Last season Gasol missed 33 games with a variety of ailments (concussion, foot and knees).

Gasol underwent “FAST technique” (focused aspiration of scar tissue) procedures on both knees. He also received “autologous stem cell injections” to stimulate the regeneration of tissue in the knees.

With the departure of Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets, the Lakers hope to turn to Gasol as the team’s primary offensive option in the post. It’s unclear if Gasol will start at center or at power forward, playing alongside newcomer Chris Kaman.
