Andrew Goudelock put up big numbers in Lakers’ loss to Spurs

The Lakers brought back second-year guard Andrew Goudelock after Kobe Bryant went down for the season with an Achilles’ tendon injury. Once Steve Blake (hamstring) and Jodie Meeks (ankle) were lost, Goudelock ended up the Lakers’ emergency starter in two playoff games against the San Antonio Spurs.

“I really haven’t had a chance to think,” Goudelock said. “From being on the court in the D-League and then they’re like, ‘You’re going back to the Lakers.’ The next day I’m here and they’re like, ‘You’re going to play.’ ”

The change was so sudden, even his NBA.com profile still has Goudelock wearing his Rio Grande Valley Vipers jersey.

Although the Lakers were swept in four games, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 17 points in the final two, playing 37 minutes per game and shooting 44.1% from the field.

“I think I did what I needed to do as far as showing my individual talent to whomever,” said Goudelock, who joined the Lakers with two games left in the regular season.

His salary for his brief time with the team was $17,934.

While it has become a common practice for teams to call up players from the NBA Development League late in the season with an additional, non/partial guaranteed season, Goudelock will be a free agent July 1.

The Lakers guard was happy to get the chance to play on a big stage but disappointed in the results.

“We basically threw a team together,” he said. “[They were] tough circumstances but I think we all learned a lot from it. I think we’ll all be better from it.”
