Lakers drop Las Vegas Summer League opener to Cleveland Cavaliers

LAS VEGAS -- The Lakers did something that would be unusual in any game, summer league or otherwise: None of their starters scored in double figures.

That’s the way it goes for the Lakers here in the Las Vegas Summer League, where their epic struggles continued Friday evening at Cox Pavilion during a 70-62 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are now 8-19 in summer league play since 2007, including 0-1 this summer, 1-4 in 2012 and 0-5 in 2010.

Lakers forward Elias Harris scored nine points, tops among the starters. Center Robert Sacre, the only player assured of making the Lakers’ roster next season, scored five points on two-for-five shooting. That was a trend for a team that shot 31.8%, making only six of 28 three-pointers.

Forward Marcus Landry led the Lakers with 14 points and fellow reserve Michael Snaer had 12. The Lakers started strong, leading by eight points after the first quarter, before fading badly the rest of the game.

Center Tyler Zeller scored 15 points and forward Carrick Felix had 14 for the Cavaliers. Cleveland Coach Mike Brown, who was fired by the Lakers in November after a 1-4 start, spent much of the game conducting interviews, signing autographs and observing from a seat in the upper reaches of the arena.
