Lakers re-sign guard Andrew Goudelock
The Lakers re-signed guard Andrew Goudelock on Sunday. The 24-year-old, 6-foot-2 combo guard was originally drafted by the Lakers in 2011 with the 46th overall pick.
Goudelock was in the team’s locker room before the Lakers’ game against the San Antonio Spurs.
“I got here early, around three,” said Goudelock. “We went over some basic things but they said most of it is just playing. If you don’t shoot, [Coach Mike D’Antoni] gets mad -- that’s right up my alley.”
The Lakers cut Goudelock before the season. He has since started 51 games for Sioux Falls and Rio Grande Valley in the NBA Development League, where he averaged 21.1 points and 5.2 assists a game.
“The D-League is definitely tough. From the pay, to the travel, to dealing with different guys, different personalities, different coaches,” said Goudelock. “You think that you deserve to be called up. You think you deserve to be in the NBA but it doesn’t happen. You just have to wait. You just have to wait and wait and wait. It’s devastating.
“But when it does happen, words can’t really explain how you feel. I feel like I got so much better, it’s almost like I’m getting a second chance here,” he continued. “When I first came in I didn’t know that much, now I know a lot.”
Goudelock averaged 4.4 points a game as a rookie last season in 40 appearances.
“I was just frustrated,” he said of his D-League days. “I was scoring like 40 points and not getting a call up. Man what I am I supposed to do? These other guys getting called up -- I just killed that guy yesterday.”
The Lakers finally did bring Goudelock back after Kobe Bryant went down on Friday with a season-ending Achilles’ ‘tendon tear.
Goudelock will suit up and is eligible to play against the Spurs.
