Pau Gasol to represent Madrid as spokesman for 2020 Olympic bid
Lakers All-Star Pau Gasol has been named a spokesman for Madrid’s 2020 Olympic bid, according to the Associated Press.
The committee to lure the Olympics to the Spanish capital issued a statement Tuesday indicating Gasol will address the International Olympic Committee next month in Buenos Aires.
The Olympics are “more than a sport,” Gasol said in the statement.
Bringing the Olympics to Spain would provide a boost for Spain’s recessed economy.
The bid of @Madrid2020ES is ready to host the next @Olympics and needs our support. It will be an honor to be defending it in Buenos Aires. — Pau Gasol (@paugasol) August 27, 2013
This will be Madrid’s final presentation as they compete with Tokyo and Istanbul for the honor.
The IOC will make its decision in Argentina on Sept. 7.
