Washington Kastles do what Miami Heat could not: 34 straight wins
The Miami Heat challenged the Lakers’ NBA record of 33 straight wins, but fell short in March with 27.
On Wednesday, Jeanie Buss, part-owner and executive of the Lakers, reached out to the Washington Kastles of World TeamTennis for their 34th consecutive victory.
“Winning 33 consecutive games was an amazing accomplishment by our 1971-72 Lakers team, as evidenced by the fact that no other team has come close to reaching it for over 40 years now,” Buss said. “On behalf of the Buss family and the Lakers family, I want to congratulate the Washington Kastles, their players, and our good friends Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss on this milestone accomplishment of theirs.”
Buss was once an executive for the Los Angeles Strings in the 1970s, part of World TeamTennis.
The Kastles defeated the Boston Lobsters 25-12 to set the mark. Their last defeat was by the same Lobsters on July 22, 2010.
It was the Chicago Bulls who ended Miami’s streak after 52 days without a loss.
