The Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team will honor one of the university’s greatest alums this weekend during their game against Syracuse.

The Wake Forest University Athletics Department announced Thursday that the football team will honor the late Arnold Palmer with a special helmet sticker and a multicolor umbrella logo on the field. A special pregame recognition also is scheduled to honor Palmer.

The football team also will carry a flag bearing the umbrella logo when it takes the field for all remaining football games this season.

Palmer, the seven-time Major championship winner, attended Wake Forest from 1947 to 1950 but left after the death of close friend Bud Worsham and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. During collegiate play, he won multiple Southern Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA championships.

Palmer died Sept. 25 at the age of 87.
