John Wall helps Washington rally to defeat Houston, 123-122

John Wall had 19 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds and the visiting Washington Wizards rallied for a 123-122 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night to end a three-game losing streak.

Ramon Sessions had 17 points off the bench, Jared Dudley had 16 points and Marcin Gortat had 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Wizards shot 52%.

Gary Neal had 12 points, and Bradley Beal and Garret Temple each added 11 for Washington.

James Harden had 40 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds, but Houston lost its third straight.

Dwight Howard had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets but was ejected for the second straight game. He got his second technical of the night with 8:08 left in the fourth after pushing Nene while the two tangled under the basket. Nene was also ejected for a double technical on the play.

Trevor Ariza scored 17 points, Patrick Beverley had 15 points and Houston shot 48% from the field and connected on 17 of 35 from behind the arc.

Houston led, 116-110, with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, but Gortat scored four points, Wall connected on a three and Dudley and Wall each hit two free throws during an 11-1 run to give Washington a four-point lead with 1:13 left.

Harden cut the deficit to 121-119 with a minute left, but Dudley extended the lead back to four with a layup with 37 seconds remaining.

After Harden responded with a three-point play to cut the lead to one, Wall missed a layup with 9 seconds left and Ariza grabbed the rebound. Harden missed a driving layup, and Josh Smith missed the putback attempt with 2 seconds left. Wall came out with the rebound and hurled the ball downcourt to seal the win.

at Cleveland 117, San Antonio 103: LeBron James scored 29 points and Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving added 21 apiece as the Cavaliers finally took down one of the NBA’s elite teams, beating the Spurs. Cleveland came in 0-5 against San Antonio, Golden State and Chicago, three top-tier teams that figure to contend with the Cavaliers for a title this season.

Golden State 108, at Philadelphia 105: Harrison Barnes hit a three-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining and the Warriors escaped with a victory over the 76ers. Klay Thompson had 32 points and Stephen Curry scored 23 points for the Warriors, who nearly blew a 24-point second-half lead.

at Memphis 121, Sacramento 117: Jeff Green scored 29 points, Marc Gasol had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists, and the Grizzlies thwarted a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Kings. The Kings, who lost their fourth straight, pulled within 118-117 on a three-pointer from Darren Collison with 18.7 seconds left.

at Toronto 111, Detroit 107: DeMar DeRozan had 29 points and the Raptors beat the Pistons to push the team’s franchise-best win streak to 11 consecutive games. Kyle Lowry had 18 points and backup center Bismack Biyombo added 12 points and 13 assists.

at Indiana 109, Denver 105 (OT): Monta Ellis scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Pacers to an overtime win against the Nuggets. Ellis missed a three-pointer with the game tied, 99-99, as regulation ended, but he converted a three-point play with 20.4 seconds left in overtime to seal it and send the Pacers to a second straight victory.

at New Orleans 105, Brooklyn 103: Jrue Holiday hit a 15-foot shot with 1.3 seconds remaining and the Pelicans held off the Nets. New Orleans’ Anthony Davis scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in his first game back after sitting out because of a concussion. Davis started 0 for 10 from the floor before finding his rhythm.
