Wizards’ Wall has triple-double, with Anthony Davis held to nine points

John Wall had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, helping the Washington Wizards beat Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, 109-89, on Tuesday night.

Marcin Gortat had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Washington, which pulled away in the second half of its season-high fourth straight home win. Jared Dudley scored 18 points on six three-pointers and helped hold Davis in check after his monster game at Detroit.

Davis grabbed 20 more rebounds, but was held to just nine points on 3-for-9 shooting. The All-Star forward had 59 points and 20 rebounds in a victory over Detroit on Sunday.

“Tonight we kept giving him different looks, never let him feel comfortable, and any time I could put pressure on him I did,” Dudley said.

Wall made only five of 17 shots in his second triple-double of the season and fifth of his career.

Jrue Holiday had 20 points and seven assists for New Orleans, which had won four of five to remain on the fringe of the Western Conference playoff hunt.

at Portland 112, Brooklyn 104: Guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum each scored 34 points as the surging Trail Blazers made it six wins in a row and 11 out of 12.

Sacramento 114, at Denver 110: DeMarcus Cousins scored 39 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 48.3 seconds left, and the Kings won after blowing a 17-point lead. Cousins preserved the victory by stripping the ball from Darrell Arthur in the final seconds.

at Utah 117, Houston 114 (OT): Gordon Hayward scored 28 points and the Jazz moved into the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference playoff race, a half-game ahead of the Rockets. James Harden scored 42 points for Houston, and Jason Terry made a three-pointer with 10.8 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it at 106 and force overtime.

Orlando 124, at Philadelphia 115: Nikola Vucevic scored a season-high 35 points against his former team, leading the Magic over the NBA-worst 76ers. Vucevic, drafted 16th overall by the 76ers in 2011, also had nine rebounds in a “must-win” game according to Coach Scott Skiles as the Magic tries to gain ground in pursuit of its first playoff berth in four years. Vucevic was 13 for 21 from the field and nine for nine at the line. Skiles said the Golden State Warriors “will score 300 points” Thursday if Orlando defends as it did against the 76ers.
