Lindsey Vonn will call it quits after this ski season

Lindsey Vonn has made it official: The 2018-19 ski season will be her last.

The greatest female skier in history, Vonn stands just four victories short of Ingemar Stenmark’s all-time mark of 86 World Cup victories, with a chance to pass the Swedish legend this winter.

“If I can break the record, that would be amazing,” she told an audience Thursday at a Chase Ink event in New York. “If I can’t, then it’s been a great ride and I’m still the most successful female and I still think that’s something to be really proud of.”

In addition to her 82 victories and four overall championships on the World Cup circuit, Vonn has won three Olympic medals, a gold in the downhill and bronze in the super-G at the 2010 Vancouver Games and a downhill bronze at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

The 33-year-old Minnesota native has also made headlines off the mountain with modeling, constant media presence and highly publicized relationships with golfer Tiger Woods and hockey player P.K. Subban.

Her career has been marked by serious injuries and multiple surgeries that caused her to miss the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Vonn said she will search for a new passion in business.

“I would rather do nothing else in the world than be on top of a mountain,” she told the New York audience. “I’m going to look for that when I pivot.”
