Dwight Howard reportedly won’t play for Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy
The Dwight Howard-Stan Van Gundy saga has taken a turn down Really Ugly Lane.
Howard reportedly told Orlando Magic owner Rich DeVos as recently as last Friday that he does not want to play in another game for Van Gundy, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando.
Their relationship apparently became increasingly contentious after Van Gundy told reporters in early April that Howard had approached management about getting him fired. Howard denied ever having made any such request.
Unnamed sources told WKMG-TV that Howard is still reeling over the fact that Van Gundy publicly made those comments about him.
Van Gundy, however, appears to not be making much of the station’s report.
In a text message Thursday, Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel: “I make nothing of them and I have no comment.”
The newspaper reported Wednesday that “Howard’s camp is adamant that the All-NBA center wants to return for the postseason.”
Howard is currently sidelined with a herniated disk in his lower back and there is no date set for his return.
The Magic (36-26) has already clinched a playoff berth.
