Former Chivas USA player Juan Agudelo is going Dutch

Former Chivas striker Juan Agudelo is on the move again, this time to FC Utrecht of the Dutch Eredivisie.

“Excited to be joining fcutrecht on Loan for the rest of the season,” Agudelo wrote on his Twitter page Sunday.

Agudelo, 21, had signed as a free agent with Stoke City of the English Premier League, but that club lent him to Utrecht.

Agudelo, born in Colombia and raised in New Jersey, scored in his first game with the U.S. national team when he was just 17. But he has scored just once for the national team since then and has played just twice for the U.S. since the start of 2012.

His professional career had followed a similar trajectory before he showed signs of turning things around last season.

After playing 27 games -- scoring six times -- for the New York Red Bulls in 2011, Agudelo was traded to Chivas USA early in the 2012 season. He lasted less than a year there -- scoring five times in 26 games -- before being traded to New England for allocation money last May, rebounding with the Revolution to score seven times in 14 appearances despite missing games over the summer because of an injury.
