Obama has ‘discussed’ becoming part-owner of an NBA team after leaving office

What President Obama will do when his term is up come January has been a recent topic of discussion. Sure there’s plenty of golf to be played and places to see, but becoming an NBA owner?

According to ESPN, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the president has “discussed” being part of an ownership group for an NBA franchise. Earnest added that Obama “would pursue the opportunity “potentially ... under the right circumstances.”

Obama is known to be a huge Chicago sports fan and has fantasized about being part-owner of a team or forming one.

Back in November, he told GQ magazine that he “absolutely” would want to be part of the ownership for an NBA team.

“I know [White Sox and Bulls owner Jerry] Reinsdorf pretty good — he’s not giving that thing up anytime soon. But I have fantasized about being able to put together a team and how much fun that would be,” he told GQ. “I think it’d be terrific.”

Obama wouldn’t be the first president to have part-ownership of a major professional team. George W. Bush was the managing general partner with the Texas Rangers from 1989-98.
