Alicia Keys will join such company as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston when she sings the national anthem before Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on Feb. 3, the Associated Press is reporting.

[Updated at 12:36: The NFL has confirmed the report.]

The Grammy winner will also be joining the company of the Backstreet Boys, Barry Manilow, Kathy Lee Gifford and Cheryl Ladd (yes, that’s former Charlie’s Angel Cheryl Ladd) -- all former performers of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the biggest football game of the year.

And hopefully she won’t flub the words like Christina Aguilera famously did in 2011.

But let’s stay focused on the positive. Did we mention that Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson and Diana Ross have also belted out our nation’s theme song in that brightest of spotlights? There, feel better?

Another former Super Bowl anthem performer, Beyonce, is the star of the halftime show.

So now all we need to know is the minor detail of which teams will be taking part in the festivities. We’ll find that out Sunday after the San Francisco 49ers take on the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC championship and the Baltimore Ravens face the New England Patriots for the AFC title.
