Watch San Antonio women reply to Charles Barkley’s ‘big ol’ ’ insult

Charles Barkley knows how to offend the female population of an entire city.

But apparently there’s a lot the NBA analyst on TNT “dont know,” according to the T-shirts worn by some of those women to the Spurs-Oklahoma City Thunder playoff game Monday night.

Barkley had previously made derogatory on-air comments about the “big ol’ women” of San Antonio.

Vanessa Macias, the girlfriend of Spurs star Tim Duncan, and some other women who definitely don’t fit Barkley’s description wore their responses to the Hall of Famer on their tight-fitting T-shirts: “Barkley dont know.”

Barkley’s reaction? “I guarantee you, those girls are not from San Antonio,” he said during the broadcast. “They flew them in from Houston and Dallas.”

Naturally there’s been a lot of backlash about Barkley’s comments, which he has since said were made in jest (before repeating them). They were a recent topic of conversation on the CBS daytime TV show “The Talk,” with some of the hosts calling for an apology.

Elizabeth Zavala, the digital news editor for the San Antonio Express-News, posted a scathing open letter. San Antonio blogger Melanie Mendez-Gonzales ripped Barkley on her site, Que Means What? Mendez-Gonzales also helped create the hashtag #ProudSAWoman, where local women of all shapes and sizes have been posting their photos.

As far as the T-shirts are concerned, they were a clever way some of women to get their point across -- as well as the point that they apparently don’t care much for apostrophes.

But perhaps a greater statement might have been made if women of all shapes and sizes wore shirts that said something like, “Dont care what Barkley thinks” or “Dont judge me by my appearance.”

Just a thought.
