NFL draft: Will Chip Kelly end up with Sam Bradford or Marcus Mariota?
The first day of the NFL draft is finally here, which means the guessing games will be over in mere hours.
In other words, we’ll be able to stop trying to figure out what’s going on in the mind of Philadelphia Eagles Coach Chip Kelly, the guy who has kept the off-season interesting and one of the main sources of all the speculation surrounding the draft.
And Eagles quarterback (for the next couple of hours at least) Sam Bradford will know if he can actually unpack his bags seven weeks after he was traded from St. Louis to Philadelphia.
And Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota will have a new home. Chances are that will be in Tennessee because the Titans have the No. 2 overall pick, but more than one report out there says Kelly will go hard after the quarterback he recruited while coach at Oregon and that the Cleveland Browns are very interested in Bradford.
The Eagles pick at No. 20 and it would be tough to move up to No. 2 from there. But if Philadelphia traded Bradford to Cleveland for the No. 12 pick (the Browns also have a pick at No. 19), then the Eagles might be able to put something together that interests the Titans.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk quotes an NFL source as saying the Eagles are “doing all they can” to move up from that No. 20 spot. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King also has a league source that says the Browns think they have a good chance to trade for Bradford before the draft.
Now the Titans could really use a franchise quarterback, but is Mariota really a good fit for Coach Ken Whisenhunt’s system? If not, maybe it would make sense to get some extra picks high in the draft and fill in some other holes.
But who’s to say Tennessee can’t get those two first-round picks directly from the Browns, a deal ESPN is reporting the Browns are now offering.
See, so much speculation out there. Just remember that it will all be over soon, then we’ll have actual facts to deal with and will be able to get on with our lives.
