NFL fines Buccaneers’ Dashon Goldson $60,000 for latest illegal hit

The 2013 NFL season has become an expensive one for Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson, who was fined $60,000 by the league Friday for a helmet-to-helmet hit against St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey on Sunday.

It’s the fourth time Goldson has been penalized for an illegal hit. His fines have totaled $190,000 plus a one-game suspension without pay that cost him another $264,705.

Goldson’s first offense this season came in the opening game for a hit on New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Cumberland. That cost him $30,000. The second offense came a week later against New Orleans Saints runninig back Darren Sproles and cost him $100,000. That penalty came with a one-game suspension that was overturned.

Then in November, Goldson was suspended one game without pay for an illegal hit against Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White.

The NFL also fined Rams linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar $21,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit and Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson $15,750 for unnecessary roughness while hitting a quarterback. Richardson is appealing the fine.
Earlier this week, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Roberts Woods was fined $15,750 for punching Miami safety Reshad Jones.
