New England defensive back Derrick Martin wasn’t suited up for the AFC championship game Sunday, leaving him standing helplessly on the sidelines as the Baltimore Ravens beat his Patriots, 28-13, to earn a trip to the Super Bowl.

And while his home in suburban Denver was robbed by two armed, masked men.

According to Aurora police spokesman Frank Fania via the Denver Post, at least one adult and several children were in Martin’s home that evening when the two robbers forced their way inside and took numerous items of value.

“We don’t know if he was specifically targeted or not. There was nothing said during the robbery that would indicate that,” said Fania, who added that random home-invasion robberies don’t happen very often.

Fania said that no shots were fired and no one was harmed during the incident.

Martin is a seven-year NFL player who played in five games for the Patriots this season. He has also played for the Ravens, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants.
