Darren Sproles is coming off one of his least productive NFL seasons.

But if he can bounce back in 2014, the Philadelphia Eagles may have gotten a huge bargain for the second of their two fifth-round draft picks this year.

Sproles is headed to Philadelphia from New Orleans, where he spent the last three seasons after spending the first five of his career in San Diego.

Although he’s technically a running back, versatility is key to Sproles’ game. In 2011, his first season with the Saints, Sproles led the league with 2,696 all-purpose yards — 603 rushing (with two touchdowns), 710 receiving (with seven touchdowns), 1,089 on kick returns and 294 on punt returns (with one touchdown).

Last year Sproles averaged just 6.7 yards per punt return and 21.3 yards per kick return, to go with his 71 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns and 220 rushing yards with two scores.

Also on Thursday, the Eagles agreed on a two-year contract with former Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll, who had three interceptions and two sacks in 12 starts last year.
