Kings’ Dustin Brown could face suspension for hit [Video]

DETROIT -- The Kings could be playing Wednesday night against the Red Wings without the services of their captain, Dustin Brown, who will have a hearing during the day with the NHL regarding an incident involving the Wild’s Jason Pominville.

Brown’s hearing, via telephone, is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT, according to the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. He elbowed Pominville in the face along the boards, and the Minnesota player went down hard and stayed down for a few moments.

A woozy-looking Pominville left the game and did not return. Oddly, there was no penalty called on the play.

Brown could miss Wednesday night’s game at Detroit and the regular-season finale Saturday against the San Jose Sharks, depending upon the league’s ruling. He could also simply be fined, though that seems doubtful considering Pominville’s health status.

Minnesota Coach Mike Yeo, shortly after Tuesday’s game, said: “You hate to see a hit to the head.”

Working in Brown’s favor is the fact that he has no previous suspensions.

“I haven’t seen [a replay] yet,” Brown said after the Kings’ 2-1 loss to the Wild. “But I had the puck on my stick. He’s coming to hit me and I’m just bracing myself, almost the reverse. I don’t know, like I said, I haven’t seen it.”
