Riley Cooper gets in fight with teammate Cary Williams at practice

Eagles receiver Riley Cooper, who was captured on video using a racial slur while attending a concert and missed four days of practice in the aftermath, got into a fight with teammate Cary Williams on Thursday.

Williams, an aggressive cornerback, got tangled with Cooper as he tried to make a reception. The two went to the ground and Cooper reportedly shoved Williams when they got to their feet. Williams retaliated with a couple of punches before teammates separated them.

Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson were the voices of reason.

“It’s a distraction,” Vick said. “Our maturity level has to be on a whole different plane. Regardless of who the catalyst was for the whole fight, that doesn’t matter. We have to be men. We’re not guys who are out on the street, fighting one another. We’re teammates.

“It’s game week. We don’t have time for that. I don’t.”

Cooper said later “it was nothing. Both guys being super competitive. There was a lot of contact at the top of the route.”

Williams, who played for the Baltimore Ravens last season, has a reputation for having a hot temper. He got in a fight with a Patriots player during a preseason scrimmage, bumped an official during the Super Bowl game and fought with Jackson in a game last season.

“He’s just one of those guys, he’s a nagging person some times,” Jackson said about Williams. “You get him on the field, he tries to be overaggressive, he tries to do things to intimidate receivers. Some people might back down from that. When you’re dealing with people like myself, Riley, professional athletes, we all think we’re as tough as each other. “
