Who’s going to win the Super Bowl? A vote for the Seahawks

So Denver, with the mile-high offense led by record-setting, ageless quarterback Peyton Manning, is a slight favorite over Seattle in Super Bowl XLVIII. Two points, three points or thereabouts, depending on your line of choice.

Weather could play a factor, though, and if it snows or rains to make the going tough, look for the Seahawks’ better running game and league-best defense to make it tough.

Sam Farmer, The Times’ NFL columnist who has spent a great deal of time with both teams, is picking the underdog. In the video above, he says he likes the hard-hitting Seahawks’ defense over the Broncos’ offense.

By the way, the teams going head to head Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Pacific time are the same two Farmer predicted would get to the game virtually all season. Just before the NFC championship game, he briefly went off the grid and picked the charging San Francisco 49ers to upend the Seahawks.

He’s back on the Seattle bandwagon now.

Here’s my pick: Assuming the weather is merely cold, without a sloppy field, I’m going with Manning and Denver, 27-20. If it rains or snows, the Seahawks’ more conservative, ground-minded game wins, 21-17. You can take that waffling pick to the bank; just don’t wager anything on the outcome.
