UCLA football: Tommy Maddox bids Bruins adieu in 1991 Sun Bowl
UCLA will play in its fourth Sun Bowl game Tuesday. The Bruins’ previous three visits have been unique.
The 1991 trip to El Paso is a contender for worst bowl game in UCLA history, though the Bruins’ 2011 appearance in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is hard to beat.
The Bruins had 268 yards and managed only a pair of field goals by Louis Perez ... and beat Illinois, 6-3, in the 1991 Sun Bowl.
A possibly déjà vu moment for the 2013 Bruins? The 1991 game was quarterback Tommy Maddox’s last game. He declared for the NFL draft after his sophomore season, something quarterback Brett Hundley might do after this game.
It wasn’t a big send-off for Maddox, who completed 17 of 28 passes for 176 yards and had one pass intercepted.
