UCLA kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn is on Lou Groza Award watchlist

On Thursday, UCLA’s Ka’imi Fairbairn was named to the watchlist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the top kicker in college football.
Fairbairn, a senior from Kailua, Hawaii, was 18 for 22 in 2014. His .818 field-goal percentage was 19th in the nation and third in the Pac-12 Conference. He finished the season completing 13 of his final 14 attempts.
He has made 29 straight field-goal attempts 35 yards and shorter. Fairbairn, a three-year starter, is the first Bruin to score more than 100 points in three consecutive seasons. He is currently sixth all-time on the UCLA field-goal list, with 48; his 306 career points is fifth.
Fairbairn also handles kickoff duties. He put 50 of his 80 kickoff attempts into the end zone for touchbacks. He is one of 30 kickers on the watchlist, which includes four Pac-12 players.
UCLA’s Kai Forbath won the award as a junior in 2009.
UCLA is set to open its season Sept. 5 against Virginia at the Rose Bowl.
