JuJu Smith-Schuster did not lack for opportunities in USC’s last two games. The sophomore receiver caught 10 passes against Idaho, eight in the Trojans’ defeat last week by Stanford.

“I got to show my physicalness, being able to block, being able to run after the catch,” he said.

Smith-Schuster has 22 receptions, four for touchdowns, and is averaging 19.7 yards per reception. He ranks third nationally with 434 yards receiving, fifth with an average of 144.7 yards receiving per game, and 10th with an average of 7.3 receptions per game.

Smith-Schuster said his focus remains on team goals going into Saturday night’s Pac-12 Conference game at Arizona State.

“We want to come back and show what USC is about,” he said.

Smith-Schuster has been quarterback Cody Kessler’s main target. Steven Mitchell Jr. has nine catches, Darreus Rogers seven.

“People are touching the ball at the receiver position all over the place,” Kessler said. “But you see it at every level — there’s always a guy that’s obviously a very good standout receiver and JuJu’s that guy. ... That doesn’t take away from any other guys. They’re still making plays, making catches and it’s just whoever’s open, whoever the coverage works for is going to get the ball.”

Madden ready

Tailback Tre Madden is on track to play Saturday, but the availability of cornerback Kevon Seymour and lineman Antwaun Woods is still to be determined, Coach Steve Sarkisian said Thursday after a closed practice.

Madden suffered a calf strain against Stanford. He was limited in practice but said he would be ready to play against the Sun Devils.

Seymour sat out against Stanford after suffering a knee injury against Idaho.

“We still have over 48 hours to kickoff, so we’ll continue to try and get him right and ready to go,” Sarkisian said. “If nothing else, have him available in an emergency role.”

Woods, who is nursing a shoulder injury, could have a similar role.

“Just to have him for some amount of time … would be great,” Sarkisian said.

Recruiting update

Linebacker Daelin Hayes, offensive lineman Nathan Smith and defensive back C.J. Pollard signed financial-aid agreements with USC, Sarkisian announced.

Hayes, 6 feet 4 and 249 pounds, is from Belleville, Mich.; Smith, 6-7 and 264 pounds, plays at Murrieta (Calif.) Mesa High; Pollard, the son of former Trojans player Marvin Pollard, is a 6-1, 183-pound safety at Gardena Serra.

USC is bound by the agreements, but players, who can sign agreements with multiple schools, are not.
