USC recruiting update: Players take official visits
USC hosted a group of recruits for official visits last weekend, but two out-of-state players scheduled to be on campus did not make the trip.
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro receiver Christian Kirk canceled his visit last Friday and told Bruce Cooper from 12 News that he eliminated USC to form a list of five favorites: Arizona State, UCLA, Texas A&M, Auburn and Ohio State.
USC assistants Clay Helton, Tee Martin and Peter Sirmon were in-home with Kirk last Wednesday.
Salem Hills (Utah) linebacker Porter Gustin rescheduled his official visit for January. Gustin is in New York City this week for the Army All-American Player of the Year tour.
USC played host to McKinney (Texas) North High running back Ronald Jones, Hogansville (Ga.) Callaway cornerback Terry Godwin, Encino Crespi defensive back Marvell Tell and Riverside Community College receiver Isaac Whitney.
Jones is committed to Oklahoma State.
Whitney will announce his commitment on Dec. 18. He is expected to choose USC over Washington State and West Virginia.
Granite Bay linebacker Cameron Smith and Ventura St. Bonaventure quarterback Ricky Town also took their official visit to USC. Both signed financial-aid agreements in August and will enroll next month.
Available scholarships
Mission Hills Alemany receiver Desean Holmes withdrew his commitment from USC last week.
USC has 16 commits in the 2015 class, four of whom have signed financial-aid agreements that are binding for the university, but not for the players.
Kicker Matt Boermeester, a blue-shirt recruit, counts toward the 2015 scholarship allotment.
Eight scholarships remain.
