Sean Knibb opens furniture showroom

When the old bungalow next to his studio became available, landscape designer Sean Knibb seized the opportunity and opened 1524, a showroom for his debut collection of furniture. “I wanted to have a place that demonstrates to people that they don’t have to tear everything down to do something cool and modern,” Knibb says. The recycling advocate’s indoor-outdoor tables are made from salvaged wood planks set in primary-color frames. The pieces reinterpret the tubular hairpin legs popularized by midcentury icon George Nelson in an L-shaped bent steel form with architectural presence. “The bases are fabricated in Burbank,” says Knibb, photographed with his 4 Square dining table ($1,600) and Long bench ($540). “And almost all of the wood -- cedar, walnut, Douglas fir and pine -- comes from demolished homes in L.A.” The showroom also will have lighting from CL Sterling & Son. 1524 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice; (310) 450-5552; www.knibbdesign.com.
