Costa Mesa officials are hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday for the city’s new street-sweeping service.

The ceremony, which also includes a tree planting, starts at 4 p.m. in Brentwood Park, 265 E. Brentwood St.

The city recently outsourced street sweeping to CleanStreet estimating it will mean a savings of more than $1 million over the next few years. The Gardena-based company also services more than 50 other municipalities in the western United States.

CleanStreet’s vehicles are powered by compressed natural gas, officials said, which will make them quieter than the city’s older fleet of diesel vehicles.

“The City Council understands that efficient and quality street-sweeping services are important to our residents and we welcome CleanStreet to our team,” said Mayor Steve Mensinger in a statement. “Additionally, CleanStreet’s commitment to providing environmentally friendly vehicles ensures that the city continues with its efforts to help keep the environment healthy.”
