The 4,000-passenger Norwegian Bliss is almost done. It will sail L.A. to Mexico this fall
Norwegian Bliss, a new cruise ship set to sail from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera this fall, has emerged from the building dock in Papenburg, Germany, a major milestone in its construction.
The Norwegian Cruise Line ship will pay a preview visit to Southern California in May. It will become the largest vessel offering cruises to Alaska.
For now, it’s in the shipyard port for the final phase of construction and is scheduled to be completed in mid-March. The first passengers are expected to board April 19.
The ship‘s construction began in October 2016. It accommodates 4,000 guests, measures 1,082 feet in length and has gross tonnage of 167,800.
One of its most distinctive features is a huge humpback whale mural on the ship’s hull by Southern California marine life artist Wyland.
Following preview events in New York City, Miami and Los Angeles, Norwegian Bliss will sail into Seattle for its official christening May 30. Cruises to Alaska are scheduled to begin June 2.
Norwegian Cruise Lines said the Norwegian Bliss was custom-built with features and amenities to complement the Alaska cruise experience, including a 180-degree observation lounge.
Throughout the summer, the ship will offer weekly cruises to Alaska, with ports-of-call that include Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, Alaska, as well as Victoria, British Columbia.
In fall, Bliss will sail to the Mexican Riviera from Los Angeles, moving to Miami in winter for cruises to the Caribbean. In the 2019 fall-winter season, the ship will cruise from New York City to Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
