Cruise ships: I do’s, vow renewals and a cocktail debut for Valentine’s Day

What’s Valentine’s Day like at sea? These cruise lines are stepping up the romance on Saturday and beyond for those who want to celebrate their love on or off the ship.

Royal Caribbean International lets couples renew their vows aboard every ship in the fleet on Valentine’s Day. For $250, you can have a ceremony performed by the ship’s captain followed by a Champagne toast and a reception with hors d’oeuvres and more Champagne.

You’ll get a certificate too and a photo to commemorate your second (or third?) wedding remembrance.

Princess Cruises, which provided a shipboard setting for the original “Love Boat” TV series in the 1970s and ‘80s, shoots back to the past for a Valentine’s Day special.

The line on Saturday is launching a new cocktail on all its ships. It’s called the Isaac, named for the bartender in the series played by Ted Lange. It combines white rum, pomegranate syrup, pineapple leaves, lime juice and club soda.

For those ready to tie the knot, the MSC Divinia‘s got you covered. The company offers legal weddings on shore at its Caribbean ports of call or on the ship.

One wedding wow factor: descending the Swarovski crystal staircases in the ship’s lobby.

Prices start at $1,600 for a shipboard event and $2,200 for a shore-side wedding in places such as Bridgetown in Barbados or Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. The cost covers the ceremony and wedding reception too.
