Rental beach cruisers that shine like the sun

Add Joy Ride, a new local company featuring gleaming beach cruisers, to your late-summer beach days. The small rental and tour outfit, which opened July 1, offers midday and sunset tours from Santa Monica to Marina del Rey, including bikes and guides.

Michelle Greco and Lindsey Harding, past and present WNBA players and college stars at UCLA and Duke, respectively, tout top-grade gear at their base camp at Beach Lot 1N, north of Santa Monica Pier.

Daytime tours run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and sunset tours run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tours, priced at $50 (including bike), feature stops for eating and shopping along the way. Greco leads each tour. Bike rentals are $25 per day without the tour.

Not interested in riding? Joy Ride also offers such beach amenities as boogie boards, umbrellas, chairs and sports equipment, including volleyballs and Frisbees.
