Take the family to San Diego in October, when kids get free entry to museums and the zoo
Whether you go for the day or the weekend, October is an ideal time to take your children to San Diego.
For the seventh year in a row, the city’s Kids Free San Diego program offers free admission to children at more than 40 museums and aquariums plus the San Diego Zoo.
Parents need to register online to download coupons for each venue. Here are some of the places where kids go free through the end of October.
—Birch Aquarium, 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla; (858) 534-3474. Two children 12 and younger get in free with an adult who pays full price ($18.50).
—San Diego Zoo, 2920 Zoo Dr., San Diego, (619) 231-1515. Children 11 years and younger receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult ($52). You can pay $12 to upgrade you child’s free entry and add two bus tours plus the Skyfari aerial tram.
—Midway Museum, 910 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, (619) 544-9600. Kids 12 and younger get in free with a paying adult ($18 to $20).
—Balboa Park has 17 museums to visit, including the Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, the Museum of Photographic Arts and others. Each offers kid-free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket.
