Hotels.com says U.S. travelers love London, Paris, Toronto best
London and Paris are always top choices for American travelers, but Toronto? The Canadian city beat out Rome as the third favorite destination in 2013. Mexico City and Dubai didn’t make the top 10 but did climb significantly from the previous year, according to a report.
The where’s-everyone-going intel might provide a window on travel trends for 2014. It comes from Hotels.com, which released a report Friday about popular destinations based on where its website users made reservations in 2013.
Four cities in Canada were among the top 10 that U.S. travelers liked the most. Here’s the full list:
1. London
2. Paris
3. Toronto
4. Rome
5. Vancouver, Canada
6. Tokyo
7. Hong Kong
8. Montreal
9. Barcelona, Spain
10. Niagara Falls, Canada
In the top 20, Mexico City climbed from 21st place in 2012 to 17th in 2013, maybe benefiting from the city tourism board’s campaign to woo vacationers with culinary and cultural tours, the report says. Dubai edged out Madrid, Florence and Venice, Italy, for the No. 14 spot, possibly helped by events such as Dubai World Cup and Justin Bieber’s (pre-arrest) first concert in the Middle East.
Hotels.com also tracked U.S. cities favored by international travelers. For the second year in a row, Los Angeles scored fifth after (in order) New York, Las Vegas, and Orlando and Miami, Fla. California cities that also made the top 10 were San Francisco (No. 6) and San Diego (No. 8).
