Nevada: Boulder City’s Art in the Park showcases artists’ works, wares

Art in the Park, one of southern Nevada’s oldest and biggest cultural events, returns Oct. 5 and 6 to Boulder City.

Since it began in 1963, Art in the Park has been the primary annual fundraiser for the nonprofit Boulder City Hospital. The event draws about 100,000 people to the town 25 miles east of the Strip, near Hoover Dam. Admission is free.

More than 300 artists sell their wares at what has become one of the largest juried art shows in the Southwest. Their works are judged in fine art, fine/contemporary craft and traditional craft categories.

This year’s featured artist is Ventura County resident Ora Tamir, who chose oil paint as her medium when she was 12 years old.

“I paint by soul, never bending to trends or criticism,” she said in a news release. “The painting is finished when it tells me that we have arrived.”

Tamir will be displaying her works in Booths 199 and 200.

The event takes over the streets in and around downtown Boulder City. Free parking will be available on adjacent streets, but a better bet may be to pay for parking at the old Boulder City Airport at Adams Boulevard and Aspen Street and catch the free shuttle to downtown.

Art in the Park is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.
