Norwegian Escape’s snow room is cruise ship’s latest wow factor

When the Norwegian Escape cruise ship sets sail later this year, you can count on a bit of really cold comfort.

What will be the newest and biggest ship in the Norwegian fleet will debut a snow room in its Mandara Spa, where you’ll be able to really get your heart pumping.

Why a deep freeze?

Think of those Scandinavians who emerge from a super-heated sauna and roll around in the snow. With the snow room, you can do the same thing aboard ship. Start with a sauna stint or heated lounger and then take the arctic plunge to stimulate your circulation.

The room will be 21 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit and will send out “a flurry of powdery snow throughout the day,” according to a cruise line announcement. It seats 10 people.

Other spa features aboard ship include 17 heated loungers as well as hydro-therapy pool, whirlpools, steam room, dry sauna, sanarium (cross between a sauna and steam room) and salt room -- that’s besides swimming pools and hot tubs elsewhere on the ship.

There also will be 24 treatment rooms for spa services too.

The snow room is the latest wow factor for the Escape, which is currently under construction in Germany and will make its debut next October.

Norwegian says it will have the largest water park and the largest ropes challenge course -- three stories high -- at sea.

A mini-golf course with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme up top and a grotto with warm waterfalls at the adults-only Spice H20 Club will be part of the entertainment too.

The ship holds 4,200 guests and will start out with seven-day cruises of the Eastern Caribbean from Miami. Its maiden voyage from Hamburg, Germany, to Southampton, England, is set for Oct. 25.
