Houseboating for beginners: Sign up at Lake Powell Resorts
If you’ve pictured yourself afloat on a houseboat on a sparkling desert lake -- but are afraid to try your hand at the helm -- Lake Powell Resorts & Marina has a deal for you.
Novice boaters can wade into houseboating, instead of diving in, with the Aramark resort’s Introduction to Houseboating special.
The weekend boating-for-dummies program features six hours of training with a Coast Guard-certified captain. You’ll also receive powerboat instruction and will be able to spend two nights at Lake Powell Resort or Defiance House Lodge, with breakfast and lunch included on training day, for $299 double occupancy.
The course is being held at two locations: Wahweap Marina (Sept. 21-23, Sept. 28-30, Oct. 5-7) and Bullfrog Marina (Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7).
Boating trainees will find the lake less crowded in the fall, which simplifies the lessons. And fall is a great time to explore Lake Powell, the country’s most popular houseboating destination, says Eric Johnson, vice president of operations for Lake Powell Resorts & Marina.
“Fall is Lake Powell’s best kept secret. The water is warm, the weather is pleasant and the crowds are gone,” Johnson says.
The resort is also offering 50%-off specials this fall.
