Disney’s newest cruise ship, Fantasy, arrives in Florida port
Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Fantasy, sailed into its home port of Port Canaveral, Fla., on Tuesday in preparation for its maiden voyage to the Eastern Caribbean on March 31. For fans hoping to be among the first on board, cabins are sold out for the initial seven-night sailing, but there is still space available on Fantasy for April cruises.
The sister ship to the Disney Dream, which launched last year, features Dumbo the flying elephant on its stern.
So how big is this ship? It holds 4,000 passengers plus 1,450 “cast and crew members,” as Disney Cruise Line refers to its onboard characters and workers. Those figures translate into 5,336 beds, 14 decks and 1,250 staterooms, according to the cruise line’s website.
The Fantasy has a motif that hearkens to the golden era of travel in the 1920s and ‘30s, and a three-deck atrium lobby featuring a bronze statue of Minnie Mouse.
The Fantasy held a splashy event in New York on March 1 when the ship’s godmother, Mariah Carey, officially christened it. The ship had sailed 4,700 miles from Germany, where it was built, to New York and then down to Port Canaveral.
