A California firm bought 11 Hughes transponders.
Equatorial Communication Services, which supplies private data-communications networks using satellite technology, bought the 11 Galaxy III satellite transponders from Hughes Communications Galaxy, a Los Angeles-based unit of Hughes Aircraft. The deal is worth a reported $60 million. Under the agreement, Mountain View, Calif.-based Equatorial also has access to Hughes’ network of Earth stations and microwave facilities.
