Sales subject to tax rose in California last year.
Total sales subject to sales tax reached $194 billion in 1984, up $24.6 billion, or 14.5%, from 1983. Sales in California last year showed the strongest annual growth since 1979, the state Board of Equalization reported. Adjusted for 5% inflation, the increase in constant-value dollars was 9.1%, strongest since 1977 when it was 11.6%.
