T. Wayne Miles, owner of Featherock Inc., and United States Pumice Co., the largest firms of their type in the country, has died of cancer at his Woodland Hills home.

Miles, who presided over a three-decade expansion of the mining and manufacturing companies after buying out a partner, died Thursday night. He was 67.

He was a builder with a background in real estate when he took over the companies, which ship rock, landscape stones and pumice--a porous rock used for scouring and polishing--all over the world.

Miles is survived by his wife, Jean, a son, John, a daughter, Janice, and five grandchildren.
