English Muffin Recipe Can Win a Trip to Italy

A week of cooking lessons for two at the Giuliano Bugialli Cooking School in Italy is first prize for the winner of Bays English Muffins recipe contest. Entries using the product in breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes as well as in appetizers, desserts and snacks must be received by April 1.

Winner of the second-place prize will receive an espresso/cappuccino maker and one case of English muffins. Winners of third- and fourth-place prizes will each be awarded a self-cleaning toaster-oven and one case of English muffins. The 25 winners of fifth-place prizes will each receive a gift package of English muffins and a gourmet apron.

Four finalists will be flown to Chicago for the final recipe preparation and judging April 24. The winner will return to Chicago for the official announcement May 5.

Deadline for entries and nominations to the frozen food industry’s “America’s New Traditional Homemakers” contest is March 31. Five winners, each representing a different region of the country, will each receive $2,000. One national winner will be selected from the five regional winners and awarded a grand prize of $10,000.

Winners will be judged based on information supplied on the nomination form or in a biographical letter, including reasons why you or someone you know is a new traditional homemaker. The letter should include information about the nominee’s family, personal interests, employment, education and community activities. The role of frozen foods in the nominee’s household and any frequently used frozen food recipes or menu planning ideas should also be noted.

To obtain a nomination form, write to America’s New Traditional Homemakers, c/o FACT, P.O. Box 2412, Grand Central Station, New York City 10163. A photograph of the nominee must accompany each entry. Send completed forms or letters to the same address.

Entries will be accepted through April 1 for the 13th annual California Beef Cook-Off, which takes place in Morro Bay June 20 and 21. Two $1,000 top prizes will be awarded, one for indoor beef cooking and one for barbecue cooking.

Eight finalists will compete in either category. Additional prizes for each category are second place, $500; third place, $200; and five honorable mentions of $100 each. The winner in the indoor category will represent California at the National Beef Cook-Off, Sept. 16 in Dearborn, Mich. Prizes at the national level are $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 for first, second and third place, respectively.

To enter the California Beef Cook-Off, send a typed copy of an indoor- or barbecue-cooked beef recipe to the California Beef Cook-Off, P.O. Box BEEF, Morro Bay, Calif. 93442-2031. Include name, address, telephone number and a brief statement about the origin of the recipe.

Courvoisier, Le Cognac de Napoleon, is accepting entries for its Courvoisier Culinary Classic. Grand prize is a one-week trip for two to Paris and a visit to the Chateau Courvoisier in the Cognac region, plus $5,000 in cash. Other prizes include three $5,000 cash prizes and eight $1,000 cash prizes, with a winner selected in three different categories from four regions of the country.

Competition categories are appetizer, entree and dessert. Entries must be postmarked before April 30. Recipes must be original and use the Cognac as an ingredient. Each entry must be submitted separately on 8 1/2x11-inch white paper and be attached to a completed entry form.
