Loudon Snowden Wainwright, 63, the author of Life magazine’s longtime column “The View from Here.” Wainwright joined the staff of Life in 1949 as an office boy after serving in the Marine Corps. He became known for his close association with the Mercury astronauts, for whom he wrote personal accounts of their missions for Life. In 1964, Wainwright started Life’s first personal column, which despite interruptions, he was still writing up until his death. In New York City on Monday of cancer.
