Santa Ana : Condition of Man, 18, Critical After Shooting
An 18-year-old man was in critical condition Sunday after he was shot in the head while riding in a car near the intersection of Central and Cypress avenues, officials said.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. Collie Provence said the shooting occurred just before midnight Saturday. He identified the victim as Julian Vizcarra of Santa Ana.
Asked whether the incident was related to gangs, Provence said, “It could be anything, from gang-related or somebody upset at someone for their driving.”
Police said that the automobile that Vizcarra was riding in was driven by a close friend and that one of the rounds fired at the car hit Vizcarra in the head. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed Sunday in critical condition.
Provence said investigators had no suspects in the shooting. Police officers said the area is not know for gang activity.
