Quiksilver Inc., a Newport Beach beachwear company, reported a 51% increase in net income for its second quarter ended April 30, to $2.7 million from $1.8 million for the like period last year. Sales rose 39%, to $23 million from $16.5 million. Net income for the first half of fiscal 1989 increased 62%, to $3.5 million from $2.2 million for the comparable period a year ago. Sales totaled $35.5 million, a 45% increase from the $24.5 million posted for the 6 months last year. The company said Quiksilver’s record first-half performance was a result of strong demand for its product line.
